Meta launched Muse, its personal AI agent, on September 8, 2026 – and within days it was the No. 1 free app on Apple’s US App Store, ahead of ChatGPT.

Muse isn’t another chatbot. It’s an agent that does things for you: sending emails, booking travel, filling out forms, researching purchases and buying them, all inside a secure virtual machine that Meta runs in the cloud. It’s free for most users, lives inside WhatsApp as well as its own app, and was built on Meta’s Muse Spark family of models.

Meta hasn’t published official user numbers yet, so the figures below come from app-tracking firms (Sensor Tower, Apptopia, Similarweb) and internal data reported by The Information. Here are the latest Meta Muse stats available as of October 2026.

Meta Muse Stats – The Headlines (October 2026)

    • Muse reached 2.18 million daily active users on October 5, 2026 (Similarweb)
    • It had more than 3 million weekly users within weeks of launch (The Information)
    • Muse passed 6.6 million downloads by early October (Sensor Tower)
    • It brings back 73% of new users the day after they install it – nearly double ChatGPT’s rate (Sensor Tower)
    • In its first 13 days, Muse logged 2.5 million downloads, versus 400,000 for Claude and 200,000 for Grok over the same post-launch window
    • 95%+ of Muse users also use Facebook (Apptopia)
    • The free tier includes 100 million tokens a week; paid plans cost $20 and $100 a month
    • Deutsche Bank estimates Muse could generate up to $36 billion a year for Meta by 2030

    Meta Muse User Stats

2.18 million daily active users (October 5, 2026). Similarweb data reported by Yahoo Finance shows daily usage rising steadily through early October.

Takeaway: Muse went from zero to over 2 million daily users in under a month.

3 million+ weekly users who send at least one prompt, within a broader group of 4 million+ who use Muse in some way each week, according to internal data reviewed by The Information.

Takeaway: a large share of people who download Muse come back every week.

500,000+ people tried Muse in its first week, with 250,000+ daily active users and 2 million+ prompts submitted, per The Information.

Takeaway: daily usage has grown roughly eightfold since launch week.

Muse’s early US and Canada mobile daily users beat ChatGPT’s at the same point after launch: 642,000 versus 231,000, according to Apptopia data reported by TechCrunch.

Takeaway: Muse has had a stronger mobile start than ChatGPT – though ChatGPT launched into a much smaller AI market.

Over 95% of Muse users are also Facebook users, and 63% use Instagram (Apptopia via TechCrunch).

Takeaway: Muse’s growth is powered by Meta’s existing audience – the same distribution advantage that’s driven Gemini’s growth through Android.

    Meta Muse Download Stats

730,000 downloads in roughly the first five days, rising to 2.5 million+ within 13 days (around 1.5 million on iOS and 1.1 million on Android), according to Sensor Tower data reported by CNBC.

Takeaway: Muse is one of the fastest-growing AI app launches ever.

AI App Downloads in First 13 Days After Launch
    ChatGPT 3.1 million
    Meta Muse 2.5 million
    Claude 400,000
    Grok 200,000

Source: Sensor Tower, via CNBC. Launches had staggered iOS and Android releases, which affects the totals.

Takeaway: only ChatGPT has had a bigger opening fortnight – and Muse launched in the US only.

6.6 million+ downloads by early October 2026 (Sensor Tower, via Crypto Briefing), with some reports putting US downloads above 7 million within its first month.

Takeaway: Muse’s download pace hasn’t slowed after the launch spike.

Muse overtook ChatGPT as the No. 1 free iOS app in the US within days of launch.

Takeaway: for the first time, an AI agent – not a chatbot – topped the App Store.

Meta Muse Engagement & Retention Stats

73% day-one retention, almost twice ChatGPT’s rate, according to Sensor Tower analysis reported by Yahoo Finance.

Takeaway: people who try Muse are very likely to come back the next day.

ChatGPT overtakes Muse on retention between days eight and nine, as Muse loses users more quickly after the first week. Muse still sits in second place behind ChatGPT.

Takeaway: Muse’s challenge is turning first-week curiosity into a long-term habit.

    Meta Muse Pricing Stats

Free tier: 100 million tokens a week, according to Mark Zuckerberg, as reported by CNET. A payment card is required to sign up, even for the free tier.

Takeaway: Meta is prioritising adoption over revenue – most users will never need to pay.

    Plan Price Weekly Usage Allowance
    Free $0 100 million tokens
Power $20/month 500 million Muse tokens
Maximum $100/month 3 billion Muse tokens

    Source: Meta, via Tech Insider

Takeaway: the paid plans buy more usage, not extra features – a different model from ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude subscriptions.

OpenAI’s rival Dots agent is only available on paid plans, while Muse is free to start.

Takeaway: Meta and OpenAI are taking opposite bets on how to win the agent market.

Meta Muse Availability & Product Stats

5 access points: iOS, Android, muse.ai, WhatsApp and a native Mac app (added September 17, 2026). Muse is currently US-only and for users aged 18+.

Takeaway: WhatsApp gives Muse a route to billions of users that no other AI agent has.

9 small-business integrations added on September 29, 2026, including Shopify, Stripe, QuickBooks, Asana, Zoom, Box, Canva, Slack and Intuit.

Takeaway: Muse is moving from a consumer app into small-business operations within a month of launch.

4 product milestones in 4 weeks: Muse Spark 1.3 (September 2), the consumer launch (September 8), the Mac app (September 17) and Muse for Small Business (September 29).

Takeaway: Meta is shipping Muse updates almost weekly.

    Meta Muse Business Impact Stats

Meta’s share price rose 6% on launch day, per SiliconANGLE, and has reportedly climbed more than 20% since Muse’s debut.

Takeaway: investors see Muse as Meta’s long-awaited answer to “what does all that AI spending produce?”

Up to $36 billion in annual revenue by 2030 – around 8% of Meta’s revenue – in Deutsche Bank’s bull case, with a low-end estimate of $2.4 billion (via Yahoo Finance).

Takeaway: even the cautious forecast makes Muse a multi-billion-dollar product.

    Meta Muse Challenges

Muse’s rapid rise has come with problems. Amazon has blocked AI agents, including Muse, from browsing or completing purchases on its site. Privacy concerns have also grown: ZDNET called Muse the worst AI agent for privacy among those it tested, and some early adopters have deleted or restricted the app, according to Fast Company. Meta says Muse asks for approval before spending money or sending messages, and plans an encrypted mode by December 2026.

Takeaway: Muse’s usefulness depends on websites letting agents in – and on users trusting Meta with their inboxes and payment details.

Summing Up Meta Muse Stats (October 2026)

Just over a month after launch, Muse is the breakout AI product of autumn 2026: over 2 million daily users, 6.6 million+ downloads and day-one retention nearly double ChatGPT’s – all while available only in the US.

It’s still tiny next to ChatGPT’s 1.2 billion weekly users or the Gemini app’s 1 billion monthly users. But Muse is the clearest sign yet that AI agents – not just chatbots – are going mainstream. The big questions now are whether it can hold users past the first week, how quickly it expands beyond the US, and whether sites like Amazon keep the door closed.
