Gemini is the grouped name for Google’s AI Assistant and LLM, and it has been making waves in the last twelve months to become one of the most popular AI platforms in the world.
Previously known as Google Bard, Gemini currently has over 650 million monthly active users on its dedicated app.
However, with Gemini also powering Google’s new AI Overview search function, reports suggest that this particular aspect of the LLM sees as many as 2 billion users every month.
A recent partnership with Apple to help Gemini power the new Siri in all iPhones and iPads could also signal further usage in this AI platform.
It certainly looks like the go-to LLM at the moment, so let’s take a deep dive into some of the key Google Gemini usage stats for 2026.
Top Google Gemini Usage Stats 2026
- 650 Million Monthly Active Users in the Gemini App
- Approximately 2 Billion Monthly Users for Gemini AI Overviews
- The Biggest Demographic is Users Aged 25-34
- 58% Of Gemini Users Are Male
- 40% Of Users Use Gemini For Research & Information Seeking
- Gemini Has Seen a 142% Increase In Activity Since March 2025

Information About Gemini’s Monthly Usage
Technically, Gemini has only been around for two years, yet it’s already superseding expectations with a remarkably high monthly usage.
A Google Blog from the back end of 2025 revealed that over 650 million people now use the Gemini app each month.
To put this into perspective, a court report in April 2025 revealed that Google’s Gemini passed 350 million monthly active users.
This shows that over the course of eight months, Gemini almost doubled its monthly user base, making it the fastest-growing LLM on the market.
The same Google Blog referenced earlier revealed that 2 billion users will call upon Google Gemini for AI Overviews in searches every month.
Technically speaking, that makes Gemini AI Overviews the second most used AI platform out there, behind ChatGPT.
Gemini is rapidly catching up with ChatGPT and we actually predict it will overtake it by the end of 2026 – helped along, of course, by the fact that Google controls how often it appears in SERPs and can effectively alter total usage as they choose.
How Most People Use Google Gemini
Like most AI, Gemini comes with multiple uses, which is what attracts so many people to the platform.
When looking solely at the Gemini App, we can see reports from DemandSage that showcase the most popular use case is “Research and Information Seeking” – with 40% of users opting to use Gemini for this purpose.
The complete list of use-cases can be viewed below, along with the percentage splits:
- Research & Information Seeking: 40%
- Creative Writing & Content Creation: 30%
- School or Work Assistance: 20%
- Entertainment: 10%
Two key things to take from these Gemini usage stats: they’re approximations, and the categories are rather broad. This is because there is a complete lack of concrete data out there displaying how people use Gemini. It’s too difficult to split all the different uses up, so bundling them into general categories is the next best thing.
Regardless, it shows that the majority of people are using Gemini for either research or creative purposes.
Gemini Demographic Stats – Who Uses Google Gemini?
Unsurprisingly, Gemini is used throughout the world by all kinds of people.
Before we dive into things, let’s break the Gemini demographic stats into three key sections:
- Age Groups
- Sex
- Geographical Location
Which age groups use Gemini the most?
You may be slightly shocked to see that Gen Z isn’t the most active user base on Gemini.
Instead, millennials in the 25-34 bracket account for 31.47% of users – as per similarweb analysis from December 2025.
This analysis looked at users on both mobile and desktop versions of Google Gemini, and you can see the full results below:
- 25 to 34: 31.47%
- 18 to 24: 21.29%
- 35 to 44: 19.98%
- 45 to 54: 13.83%
- 45 to 64: 8.55%
- 65 and over: 4.89%
What’s interesting about the age distribution is that it pretty much follows the trend of older generations using Gemini less than younger ones – apart from that 25 to 34 group at the top. This also means that over half of all Gemini users are under the age of 35.
However, if you look back through the historical data, you’ll see that the 35 to 44 age group is the fastest-growing of all groups. So, while it’s not the majority now, it does show a trend that people in this age range are using Gemini more and more.
Which sex uses Gemini the most?
This one is quick and easy to demonstrate using the same SimilarWeb analysis from December 2025:
- Male Gemini Users: 59.38%
- Female Gemini Users: 40.62%
There has always been a pretty clean split between male and female Gemini users, and it has increased in recent months.
One possible reason is a Harvard Business School study that finds women avoid AI more than men, largely due to mistrust and ethical concerns.
Where do most Gemini users come from?
When you take a look at where most Gemini users access the site from, there’s a real mixed bag of countries.
The United States takes the top spot with 12.37% of users – which isn’t surprising – but some of the other countries in the top five might not’ve been on your radar:
- United States: 12.37%
- India: 7.39%
- Brazil: 4.5%
- South Korea: 3.71%
- Vietnam: 3.35%
- Others: 68.67%
All countries in the top five saw dramatic traffic increases in the last month, with the US growing by 59.73%. South Korea saw the second-highest growth from those on the list, increasing by 53.86%.
How do these top countries compare to other AI platforms? We used similarweb to compare Gemini with ChatGPT, and here are the results:
| Gemini Top Countries | ChatGPT Top Countries |
| United States: 12.37% | United States: 17.47% |
| India: 7.39% | India: 9.84% |
| Brazil: 4.5% | Brazil: 4.54% |
| South Korea: 3.71% | United Kingdom: 4.33% |
| Vietnam: 3.35% | Japan: 3.87% |
What we can deduce from this is that Gemini has a surprisingly low usage in big markets like the UK and Japan. Perhaps that will change in the coming year, though who knows?
Gemini Market Share vs Other AI Platforms
It won’t shock you to learn that ChatGPT from OpenAI is the dominant force in the AI world at the moment. With a 64.5% market share, it leads the way by a considerable distance – Gemini settles in a comfortable second place with a 21.5% market share. (Source)
| AI Platforms | Global AI Market Share |
| ChatGPT (Open AI) | 64.5% |
| Google Gemini | 21.5% |
| DeepSeek | 3.7% |
| Grok | 3.4% |
| Perplexity | 2.0% |
| Claude | 2.0% |
| Copilot (Microsoft) | 1.1% |
Here’s something crazy to note about this data: Google Gemini sat at 5.7% this time last year. It almost quadrupled its market share in twelve months, solidifying its status as the fastest-growing AI platform around.
Quick Stats About Gemini Developer and API Usage
Let’s have a quick gander at the development side of things, most notably how app developers are using the Gemini API in 2026. The standout statistic here is that the total Google Gemini API volume officially hit 85 billion in January 2026.
That’s a significant milestone, and when compared with just 35 billion requests last March, it’s a 142% growth.
Moreover, Gemini API now has around 2.4 million active users – a 118% growth from around 1.1 million last March.
Both statistics show a growing trend in app developers moving towards the Gemini platform when creating AI-powered applications. It shows that the success of Gemini on desktop continues over to the mobile world.
The Biggest Takeaways From Our Google Gemini Usage Stats
2025 was a remarkable year for Google Gemini, and that’s reflected in these stats at the beginning of 2026. The biggest thing to take from all of this information is that Gemini is on the rise.
It’s still a long way from ChatGPT and OpenAI’s dominance, but going from 350 million monthly active users to 650 million is no mean feat. The increase from a 5.7% to a 21.5% market share is also astounding.
With more and more companies and brands trusting Google Gemini as the basis for their AI platforms (hello again, Apple), it looks like Google will continue to eat into OpenAI’s market share for the foreseeable future.
Between Google’s dominance of traditional search and rapid expansion in the AI space it’s clear that all AI SEO is going to focus heavily on visibility in Gemini moving forward.
